The room, the seats and the hours

The private room at Bếp Rơm seats 12 around one shared table, 14 with extra chairs. It sits by the covered veranda and is for groups of 9 to 14; a party of 8 can ask for it instead of the round table. Each sitting is three hours, with no room fee. Order a mâm (a set of dishes laid for the whole table) or pick dishes from the menu.

Minimum spend and deposit

There is no room fee, but there is a minimum spend that includes drinks and 8% VAT:

  • Lunch (11:00 to 14:30 window): VND 3,000,000.
  • Dinner (from 17:00): VND 3,600,000.
  • If the bill ends below the minimum, the difference is charged.
  • A deposit of VND 1,500,000, flat, deducted from the bill. It is refunded in full if you cancel at least 48 hours ahead.
  • Book at least 48 hours ahead. We hold the room 20 minutes from the booked time; message us on Zalo and we hold it once more, up to 30 minutes.
The minimum spend, the deposit and the lead time are Bếp Rơm's own rules, not a market norm. We found no mid-range Vietnamese restaurant that publishes a private room minimum spend.

The mâm for 10

The private room mâm for 10 is VND 2,440,000: two spring-roll plates, lotus stem salad, two bánh xèo, two cá lóc nướng trui, grilled chicken, grilled tiger prawns, stir-fried beef with jasmine flowers, sour soup with snakehead, two plates of morning glory, ten bowls of rice and two grilled bananas. On its own it falls short of the minimum: by VND 560,000 at lunch and VND 1,160,000 at dinner, which drinks and dessert usually cover. The dishes together contain seven of our nine allergen groups (crustaceans, fish, molluscs, peanut, soy, egg, wheat); if anyone is allergic, order à la carte with the allergen filter. The kitchen is shared, so we cannot promise there are no traces.

Example: Mum’s 70th birthday

Chị Hân (Đoàn Ngọc Hân) books the private room for 12 on a Saturday evening, three days ahead, seated at 18:30, and brings a birthday cake in at no charge. She orders two round mâm (VND 2,580,000), one lẩu mắm (VND 458,000), two grilled bananas with coconut cream (VND 116,000), six fresh coconuts (VND 330,000) and six roasted brown rice teas (VND 228,000). The total is VND 3,712,000, above the dinner minimum of VND 3,600,000, about VND 309,000 a head. The VND 1,500,000 deposit comes off the bill, leaving VND 2,212,000 to pay. An illustrative story for the demo site; the figures are assumed.
