A Private Room for 10: Minimum Spend, Menu, How Long You Sit

What a minimum spend is and why few restaurants print it. The 10-person private room mâm is VND 2,440,000; Hân's 12-guest birthday priced dish by dish.

Round tables with white cloths in a brick-walled banquet room, fresh flowers and wooden chairs

Our private room for 10 has a minimum spend of VND 3,000,000 at lunch and VND 3,600,000 at dinner, drinks and 8% VAT included. There is no room fee. You get three hours, a deposit of VND 1,500,000, and that deposit comes off your bill. Here is how those numbers turn into an actual meal.

What a minimum spend is

It is the lowest total your room’s bill can reach, charged instead of a room fee. If the bill is higher, you pay the bill. If it is lower, we charge the difference. At Bếp Rơm drinks and VAT count towards it, so ten coconuts in the shell help you get there.

We use a minimum spend because there is one private room and one shared table: 12 seats, 14 with extra chairs. You pay nothing for the room itself. You only have to order a proper meal.

Why few restaurants print the number

We opened three pages for places with private rooms. The Foody page for Bếp Nhà Lục Tỉnh (District 1) says it has private rooms and states no minimum spend. The Foody page for Quán Bụi Garden (Thảo Điền) lists private dining rooms and recommends booking ahead, with no figure. The Square One page at Park Hyatt Saigon gives a starting rate of VND 1,950,000 per guest before service charge and VAT, and names no minimum number of guests or spend.

Three pages do not describe a market. They show one thing: on the pages we read, nobody prints the figure, so you have to ask. Ours is the restaurant’s own rule, not a market norm. Square One is only there to show where the hotel end sits: for 10 guests that is VND 19,500,000 before service and VAT, against our minimum of VND 3,600,000, which is VND 360,000 a head.

The private room mâm for 10: VND 2,440,000

A mâm is a set of dishes laid for the whole table. This one is priced at the sum of single prices minus 5%, rounded down to the nearest VND 10,000.

Dish Qty Amount
Chả giò tôm thịt (crispy spring rolls) 2 VND 176,000
Gỏi ngó sen tôm thịt (lotus stem salad) 1 VND 148,000
Bánh xèo tôm thịt (sizzling rice-flour pancake) 2 VND 276,000
Cá lóc nướng trui (snakehead grilled whole in burning straw) 2 VND 716,000
Gà ta nướng muối ớt (free-range chicken with chilli salt) 1 VND 268,000

Single prices added up VND 2,570,000
Mâm price (5% off) VND 2,440,000

That is VND 244,000 a head. But look closely: the mâm alone does not reach the minimum. At lunch it is VND 560,000 short, at dinner VND 1,160,000 short. Drinks, an extra dish or dessert fill the gap.

Two ways to add it up for 10 guests

Lunch Dinner
Private room mâm VND 2,440,000 VND 2,440,000
10 coconuts (VND 55,000) VND 550,000 VND 550,000

Total VND 3,038,000 VND 3,640,000
Minimum VND 3,000,000 VND 3,600,000
Per head VND 303,800 VND 364,000
Left to pay after the deposit VND 1,538,000 VND 2,140,000

If you order only the mâm and 10 roasted brown rice teas (VND 380,000), the bill is VND 2,820,000. At dinner you pay VND 3,600,000, at lunch VND 3,000,000. Any shortfall is charged, so you may as well spend it on food you want.

An example: Hân’s 12-guest dinner

Ms Đoàn Ngọc Hân (an illustrative example, with made-up figures) books the private room for 12 on a Saturday evening, for her mother’s 70th birthday. She orders two round-table mâm (2 × VND 1,290,000 = VND 2,580,000), one lẩu mắm (VND 458,000), two grilled bananas (VND 116,000), six coconuts (VND 330,000) and six roasted brown rice teas (VND 228,000). The total is VND 3,712,000, above the dinner minimum, about VND 309,000 a head. After the VND 1,500,000 deposit, VND 2,212,000 is left to pay.

How we do it at Bếp Rơm

For 9 to 14 guests we seat you in the private room only. Choose a date, time and party size on the reservation page; we confirm on Zalo and repeat back any allergens you noted. The private room mâm covers seven of our nine allergen groups (crustaceans, fish, molluscs, peanut, soy, egg, wheat). If someone is allergic, swap dishes one by one at single prices; the kitchen is shared, so we cannot promise there are no traces. Room details are on the private dining page, smaller sets on the set menus page, how the deposit works in restaurant deposits, and the wider picture in booking a Vietnamese restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City. Our reservations manager is Nguyễn Đức Thịnh.

The minimums of VND 3,000,000 and VND 3,600,000 are the restaurant's own rule, not a market norm. Hân's story is an illustration for this demo site; the figures are made up.
